The Disease

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a neurological disease at the
crossroads of autoimmunity and neurodegeneration

Anti-IgLON5 disease is a neurological disease in which the body’s own defenses mistakenly attack the neurons. In this condition, the immune system targets a brain protein called IgLON5, which function is unclear.

For reasons that are still unknown, this immune attack (autoimmunity) leads to brain degeneration, with changes that resemble those seen in Alzheimer’s disease (neurodegeneration).

This unusual combination of autoimmunity and neurodegeneration makes Anti-IgLON5 disease unique.

Our goal is to better understand how immune attacks on the brain can lead to neurodegeneration. By studying this rare but life-threatening disease, we hope to uncover mechanisms that may also be relevant to more common neurodegenerative disorders, ultimately helping to improve diagnosis and treatment for many patients.

THE PROJECT

IGNITION is a funded MSCA Doctoral Network dedicated to advancing the understanding of Anti-IgLON5 disease through a transnational and interdisciplinary consortium that trains the next generation of researchers and addresses the key mechanisms linking autoimmunity and neurodegeneration.

WORK WITH US

IGNITION offers a fully funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN) training program, empowering the next generation of researchers to tackle immune-mediated neurodegeneration and develop transformative solutions.
